But that was before Slovenia-based Alfastreet gave it a shot. The result, dubbed Royal Derby, was one of the standout products at the recent Global Gaming Expo Asia in Macau. “In theory the game is the same, you have horses running on the field, but that’s where it ends. The technology of our game is light years ahead of the others,” explains Alfastreet Sales Director Albert Radman. “Obviously, it has been many years since the other games were released, and technology has come a long way, but this game uses particularly sophisticated technology. There are no strings attached, literally, as there were before. It’s all wireless, and something that we totally and completely figured out on our own—there was no reference for this. “It’s easy to maintain and has almost zero moving parts. The parts that you see on the outside are almost it. We’re being asked, ‘What about the maintenance?’ Everybody thinks this could be difficult, but all you see basically is a plastic horse running and that’s the only thing that could wear out over a very long period of time. And what you do is you just pick it up, take it away and replace it with a different one. No need to program, or anything like that. It’s that simple.” From the players’ perspective, the attraction of the game is that it’s “totally fair,” adds Mr Radman. “The difference between this and real horse racing is that in real horse racing the payout depends on Raising the Bar Again “When we did the 23-inch screen, we were the first ones with such a big screen. Everybody else followed,” says Alfastreet Sales Director Albert Radman. “Now we are doing the 32-inch. You will see it will take some time for the others to catch up with us.”
